I thought it would be fun to make some decorative switchplates for the house, so I watched a few online tutorials then gave it a try.
My first project turned out well, so my husband asked me to make a couple of switchplates for a baby’s room. We went shopping to try to find some cute paper and stickers and I kind of got hooked! So far, I have only used regular lightweight scrapbook paper and stickers that are on a clear base.
Here are some helpful hints if you’re just starting out. Craft knife blades need to be kept sharp or the paper will have a tendency to tear. Mod Podge works best if mixed with a tiny bit of water, but the paper will pucker if it gets too wet. Use a brayer after you stick the paper on to try to remove any air bubbles underneath. Lightly mark the backside of the paper with guidelines and toggle locations, then cut out the toggle holes on the inside of the markings so you have some wiggle room.
